| Patiently responding to each of Little Cub's many questions about the baby, Mama and Papa affirm their great love for their first child, while gently paving the way for the new arrival. At first, Little Cub wants to know if she can move out of the house when the baby comes; by the end of the story, she is eagerly anticipating the arrival of a younger brother or sister she can play with, and who will look up to her. From addressing the question of whether a family can return a baby they don't like to explaining the importance of becoming a big sister, Mama and Papa often return to the refrain introduced in this book: "Because God gave us you," frequently adding, "Now he's given us two."
